Brookwood Neighborhood Watch

Your Brookwood Neighborhood Watch.

This web page is intended to augment the communication that occurs between you and your Block Captain. We will post information about Neighborhood Watch, links to other sites you will find informative and useful, and specifics regarding Brookwood.

Two Key Neighborhood Watch Principles:
• Know Your Neighbors and
• Report Suspicious Activity
When you observe suspicious activity (something that just doesn't "feel right") you are encouraged to gather information without placing yourself at risk and then call 377-6790 (or 911 if it is an emergency or you are witnessing a crime in action). This number is the Dispatch number that serves the Ada County Sheriff's Office (which includes the Eagle Police Department, a sub-station of the Sheriff) and the Boise Police Department.

Please know that the Sheriff's Office wants you to call in with this information. You are actually supporting their efforts!

What is happening right now?
• We are encouraging all homeowners to keep their exterior home lights on all night. The Sheriff's Office has commented that they sometimes have a difficult time finding homes in Brookwood because the house number is not lit. In addition this is both a safety and security issue. Steve and Bonnie Fogdall calculated that it costs them less than $5/month to keep their lights on and they plan to install energy saving light bulbs which will lower that cost.

Recognizing Suspicous Activity
BE ALERT. Anything that seems slightly "out of place" or is occurring at an unusual time of day could be criminal activity. DO NOT ATTEMPT TO APPREHEND A PERSON COMMITTING A CRIME OR TO INVESTIGATE A SUSPICIOUS ACTIVITY. Call the Sheriff's Office Dispatch number, 377-6790, immediately, and do not worry about being embarrassed if your suspicions prove to be unfounded. Law enforcement officers would rather investigate than be called when it is too late.

The following incidents MAY indicate possible criminal activity and should be reported
• Continuous repair operations at a nonbusiness location (stolen property being altered),
• Open or broken doors and windows at a closed business or unoccupied residence (burglary or vandalism),
• Unusual noises, such as gunshots, screaming, or dogs barking continuously (burglary, assault, or rape),
• Sound of breaking glass (burglary or vandalism),
• A person exhibiting unusual mental or physical symptons (person may be injured, under the influence of drugs, or otherwise needing medical attention).

Time and accuracy are critical in reporting crime or suspicous events. Use the Ada County Sheriff's Office emergency number, 911, to report life-threatening incidents or a crime in progress, and use the Sheriff's Office non-emergency dispatch number, 377-6790, for crimes that have already occurred. Your call could save a life, prevent an injury, or stop a crime. The information you provide will be kept confidential. You do not need to give your name, although this is often helpful. Also, please remember to report any suspicious activities to Steve Fogdall and Leann at Brookwood so the information can be shared with the community in a timely manner.
